Dr. Gutsmann, was born in Hamelin, Germany.   She traveled to the United States with the Lion's Club International Youth Exchange Program.  Initially, she planed to stay in the United States for a couple of months, however, the summer she spent on an American farm changed her mind, and she has been here ever since.   The farm animals sparked her interest in biology, and the small American farm town engrained a sense of caring and community, which is so important to the family practice physician.  She attended American Universities and received Bachelor's of Science (B.S.) and Masters of Science (M.S.) degrees in Biology, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Molecular Biology.  After completing postdoctoral studies in the molecular biology of aging, Dr. Gutsmann returned to medical school in order to help individuals in need of a caring physician.

Dr. Gutsmann completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, and her family practice residency at Southwestern Medical School, in Dallas, which serves one of the largest county hospitals in the country, Parkland Memorial Hospital.  More importantly, she is a board certified family practice physician licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas.   Before becoming the Director of Dr. CAREing®, Dr. Gutsmann was employed at urgent care centers throughout North Texas.
